Behind the Slide

Today we’re going to “Zydeco Shuffle” with Mississippi born, Louisiana raised slide guitar player Sonny Landreth whose music blends Delta blues, Cajun country and Zydeco into a signature style and tone that gives a very modern twist to a heady and infectious mix of traditional southern musical styles.

Sonny’s slide guitar technique is noted for his unique ability to fret notes and chords behind the slide whilst he plays. Sonny’s great guitar tone is both warm, smooth and crisp.

Equipment and Musicians

Sonny Landreth has worked with some great guitarists and musicians including Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Eric Johnson, Gov’t Mule & Jimmy Buffett.

Sonny is known for using a Dumble head amplifier, Fender Stratocaster guitars, one with a Trilogy tuning bridge and even a Gibson Les Paul with a Transperformance system. He also owns & plays a beautiful Terraplane Resonator!
