Lazy J Boutique Amps

If you’re looking for a SERIOUS boutique amp builder in the U.K. then look no further. Jesse Hoff builds amps under the moniker Lazy J and his work is recognised as some of the best, by far. Small components are mounted onto eyelet board. Yep – there’s no effing around going on here – strictly next level attention to sonic detail.

Hand Built Boutique Goodness

“Hand built, new amps, fall in the same category in terms of build quality and attention to detail as their vintage counter parts…but at a much more affordable price. Beyond that, they can be tailored to a players needs without worrying about ruining the collectable value of a 40-50 year old amp. You can add reverb, tremolo, channel switching… the world’s your oyster.”

Lazy J 20

…is a 2 channel, hand built, point to point wired c.18 watt amp with 12”, 8 Ohm, Celestion Alnico Blue, Gz34 rectifier, 6L6 lamps in the power amp and two 12AX7s. The cabinet is built from finger jointed pine and covered with hand aged, lacquered tweed. What makes this amplifier more interesting is the tonal variation coming from interactive channels – unusual. The amp will take a 5Y3 rectifier and a pair of 6V6s without the need of re-biasing. You can opt for an Accutronics spring reverb powered by two more tubes as well.

The 20 also comes with a built in Variable Attenuation Control (VAC) – sometimes simply called an attenuator – so you can dial in great tones at lower volumes and retain all the fabulous character – great for practising and great for recording.

Jesse also produces a 40 and an 80 if you need something bigger.

Lazy J Cruiser and Cruiser Deuce Boutique Pedals

The Lazy J pedals are also handmade with quality components intended to both clean boost as well as overdrive a tube amp. The Booster amplifies your guitar signal without changing tone or dynamics and responds to your guitar’s volume control so you can dial in what you want when you need it – fast. You can then dial in some DRIVE and control it’s character and shape (Compression/Dynamics) with the SAT control.

All reviews have been ultra-positive and the Cruiser has been compared to the legendary Klon Centaur. SO, if you have a decent amp then this might be all the pedal you will really ever need.
