The vast record collection of music legend & pioneering DJ John Peel is being transformed into an interactive online “museum” at thespace.org .
John Peel’s collection which features 25,000 LPs, 40,000 singles and many thousands of CDs. Peel broadcasting regularly from 1967 until his death in 2004 and was fanmous for for promoting artists working in a huge range of genres – his legendary Peel Sessions, in which bands would play live at the BBC, often provided major national coverage for unknown, breaking and outsider bands and musicians many of whom became hugely successful.
The 2005 documentray “John Peels Record Box” featuring 143 of Peel’s favourite singles included 11 by The White Stripes. Peel’s favourite band was The Fall, and his favourite record of all time The Undertones “Teenage Kicks”.
